Distributed, Event-Driven Simulation
Posted 31 Oct 2004 by herman
Event-driven simulation gets more interesting when implemented in a network of hosts. Here is some background reading material.
Two articles read on the topic are:
The first few pages of the first article contain a nice description of discrete-event simulation, and the second article surveys some of the main approaches to parallelism for simulation. Pdf copies of these articles can be accessed from a University of Iowa computer.
- Distributed Discrete-Event Simulation (in ACM Computing Surveys Volume 18, Issue 1, March 1986).
- Parallel Discrete Event Simulation (in Communications of the ACM, Volume 33, Issue 10, October 1990).
Note: you do not need to read more than the first three or four pages of either article, but you should look at both of them.
