Distributed, Event-Driven Simulation
Posted 31 Oct 2004 by herman

Event-driven simulation gets more interesting when implemented in a network of hosts. Here is some background reading material.

Two articles read on the topic are:

  1. Distributed Discrete-Event Simulation (in ACM Computing Surveys Volume 18, Issue 1, March 1986).

  2. Parallel Discrete Event Simulation (in Communications of the ACM, Volume 33, Issue 10, October 1990).
The first few pages of the first article contain a nice description of discrete-event simulation, and the second article surveys some of the main approaches to parallelism for simulation. Pdf copies of these articles can be accessed from a University of Iowa computer.

Note: you do not need to read more than the first three or four pages of either article, but you should look at both of them.
